Just when you thought the next big leap in fuel economy would come from one of the exciting new emerging technologies, Axon Automobiles brings a standard gasoline engine car to market that gets 100 MPG!
Axon's manufacturing process specializes in carbon fiber which they use to make cars light, safe and fuel efficient. It's been common knowledge that carbon fiber offers the strength of steel with only a fraction of the weight. Due to the high cost of traditional manufacturing techniques, carbon fiber has been largely looked over with respect to automobile construction. And since it's been more profitable to focus on increasing engine power rather than making lighter cars, most manufacturers have chosen steel and aluminum. Axon now believes that they can produce a carbon fiber frame cheaper than metal counterparts.
Axon is a UK based company and they are shooting to have the car available for sale in Europe by 2010
