Non-Stop Outdoor Composter (50 gal.)
October 10, 2009 by anthony · Leave a Comment
If you want to make great compost for your garden or flower bed, you’re going to need a good composter.
The Sun-Mar Continuous Use Auto Flow 200 (Non-Stop) Composter is one of the best selling composters around, and it is guaranteed to create light compost that anyone can shovel around the garden.
This composter has several functions that place it a step above many of the other composters out there, so if you’re looking for a nice composter, this may be the one for you.
The Sun-Mar Composter uses a special rotation bio-drum that allows it to continuously move the compost around. The compost is cycled through the outer drum and then moved back to the collection chamber and to the output port. Once it’s cycled through several times, you’ll have very "fluffy like" compost that you can scoop out and use in your garden. It’s very easy to load up the Sun-Mar Composter, too. Unlike most drum composters, you don’t have to stop this one to add more kitchen scraps or other items to it. You can keep the composter right outside your door (especially if your kitchen has its own outside door) and quickly and easily dump your scraps into it.
It’s strong enough to survive the weather, and its green polyethylene body will last for quite some time. This type of composter is really useful for those who constantly need a source of great compost for their gardens and flower beds.
Recycle.

Most Energy Efficient Ceiling Fan
September 16, 2009 by anthony · Leave a Comment
Are you looking for a way to save money on your energy bill? If so, there are several different options. One of these is to install a very energy efficient ceiling fan. While you may not be able to save a ton of money, using energy efficient ceiling fans can save a little bit of money.
If you figure up how many ceiling fans you have in your home, however, you may find that you can actually safe a good amount of money overall.
There are several different things to look for when shopping for an energy efficient ceiling fan. The first thing to consider is the blade size. You need to find a ceiling fan with blades that are between 50 and 56 inches long for large rooms. For medium sized rooms, 42 inches is the minimum. For a smaller room, you can get by with a fan with 32 inch blades. You need to have your fan mounted at least seven feet above the floor, although eight to nine feet is really better. The blades should have a pitch of 14 degrees to maximize the amount of air the move. Make certain the blades are not made out of solid wood or particleboard—neither is very efficient.
When it comes to controls, many may think you need a very complex ceiling fan. However, that’s not true. All you need is a basic fan setup—the simple pull chain that controls fan speed and the switch that changes the way the fan rotates is all that is necessary.
This is all that is needed to save you a little bit of money every month. These energy efficient ceiling fans may not be a way of saving a huge amount of money, but they are helpful in shaving off some cost per month and helping you save a bit on your budget.
Slate Solar Stepping Stone - (Solar Walkway Light)
July 27, 2009 by anthony · Leave a Comment
I love solar powered items, especially ones that help me out in the dark. I don’t know how many times I’ve left home during the day and returned at night only to realize I didn’t leave the porch light on. It can be difficult to avoid stepping on things or following the walkway when it’s really pitch dark, as it is in parts of my yard. But now I’ve discovered the perfect solution: slate solar stepping stones.
These stepping stones look like normal stepping stones with one major exception: the middle of the stepping stone features an integrated solar cell that charges up during the day. At night, the cell lights up so you can see to walk down your garden path or up your walkway to your front door. The solar cells will provide a good eight hours of light provided they get a full day’s charge, which is enough to illuminate your paths from sunset to sunrise. Each of these stones measures eight inches on each side, and you get two in each pack. Read more
Insulated Tab-Top Curtain Panels

If you’re like me, you want to drop your electric bill as much as possible. During the hot summer months, the air conditioner tends to run all the time, especially if temperatures really climb. This always translates into very high electric bills.
But what can you do? Sure, fans can help a lot, but they can’t do it all. Even turning the thermostat up a few degrees may not help that much. Other than sweating it out, how can you work to cut down the amount of electricity used while still keeping your home cool?
One thing you can do is add insulated curtains to your home. These curtains look no different from regular curtains. In fact, some of them look much better! The secret, though, is in the backing and interior material. These fashionable curtains hide a functional side—they are actually made from insulated material that blocks out a great about of heat. While it may not seem like it, our homes actually absorb a good amount of heat through windows. The sunlight that looks so great streaming in through the windows heats up our homes, and blocking out these rays can save a lot.
These insulated tab-top curtain panels are made from a heavy duty suede material that is able to block out both the heat and keep cold drafts from coming into your home during the winter. This will help keep your heating costs down in the winter. In addition to this, the curtains will block out nearly all sunlight, making them ideal for those who work at night and sleep during the day. You’ll no longer be woken up by the bright morning sun on weekends, either! Many of these types of curtains reduce noise, too, which is also ideal for daytime sleepers.

Water Distiller Review

Are you looking to drink more water but don’t think your tap water is good enough? Some people turn on the facet and get some very nasty looking water. Others, especially those who have older homes, find flecks of things like rust in their water. No one wants to drink water like this, but buying all that bottled water seems like it will cost an awful lot of money, not to mention the build of BPA in the system over time. The same goes for installing a water filter system—the filters have to be changed monthly, and they can be quite expensive. However, with a Home Water Distiller, you don’t have to worry about cost.
What does a non-electric water distiller do? It uses any heat source to create pure, distilled water that is perfectly safe for drinking. All you have to do is add in the water, put it on a heat source like your stove, and in just an hour or so, you’ll have water with absolutely no impurities in it. It can create 3.2 qt. of fresh water in one use, so if you and your family drink a ton of water a day, you may need to constantly use the distiller. This may not be the best option ever. However, if you’re out camping or are traveling to an area where the water is questionable, creating this amount of pure water in an hour is certainly reasonable.
But why drink distilled water? Well, according to many studies, distilled water has a number of benefits. It has no parasites or other harmful things in it, and it can actually help your health. Drinking a good amount of pure water every day can help you look younger, make your joints move better, and help flush out toxins and other wastes from your body. It’s also helpful in combating some diseases and illnesses. Drinking distilled water is, therefore, absolutely essential if you want to live healthy.

Solar Hot Water Panel
July 14, 2009 by anthony · Leave a Comment
Many people are looking for ways of cutting costs, and while installing solar paneling on their homes may not be the best cost-cutting method, adding a Solar Hot Water Panel can considerably help. In addition to cutting your electric bill down, a solar hot water panel is also a great way of becoming a little more ecologically friendly.
One of the top solar hot water panels was created by Heliodyne. The Heliodyne Cool Climate Packaged System is a hot water panel system that has been designed to work in all weather regions and with all types of water. It works with hard water, in areas that often have freezing water, and even in areas where there is little sunshine. The system is available in two mounting options: rack or flush. The Heliodyne is a closed loop system, which means that the heat transfer fluid actually moves through the collectors, not through the water. This results in fewer problems with the system and causes less wear on the parts.
How does the Heliodyne Cool Climate Packaged System work? Well, when the system has enough heat stored in the collectors, the system automatically turns on your water pumps. The solar fluid starts moving from the collectors into the heat exchanger. There, the heat is transferred from the fluid to the water in the tank. The solar fluid is them pumped back to the collectors, where it gets heated before going through the cycle again. As long as the collectors have heat stored in them, the cycle will continue. If it’s cloudy for several days and the collectors don’t store up heat, a backup system will come on that heats water using standard methods.
In addition to the standard system, a premium package is also available. It features upgraded heat transfer capability that will monitor how well the Heliodyne system is working and allow you to fine-tune how it works. It also comes with a Wi-Fi hub that gives you the option of accessing the system from any computer.
Swimming Pool Solar Heaters
July 2, 2009 by anthony · Leave a Comment
Keeping your pool nice and warm during the cooler months can mean all the difference between swimming in it and letting it sit there. After all, who wants to go swimming in a cold pool? Some old style pool heaters had to be plugged in or ran off of gas. However, there are two issues here: one, you never really want to have any electrical cables around your swimming pool, do you? And two, if you’ve got an indoor pool, it’s not a good idea to have anything that creates gas fumes unless you’ve got a door or window open. It can also be a pain to have to purchase fuel all the time.
However, there is one solution to keeping your pool warm and avoiding both electrical cables and gas. The answer: Swimming Pool Solar Heaters. By making use of solar heating, you can make your swimming area much safer. You can also reduce the amount of CO2 emissions you create since you won’t be using fossil fuels to heat your pool. You also don’t run the risk of any sort of accidental electrocution since you won’t have any power cords running to your electric pool heater.
Most kits that provide solar heating for pools include several commercial-grade solar panels. These panels can easily be installed near your pool or on the roof of your pool house, and they feature UV inhibitors and are reinforced to withstand storms. There’s nothing really complicated about installing them, and most people can have their solar heating solutions up and running within an afternoon. The instructions provided with each solar heating kit for pools make it very easy to install the system. These solar panels will even work with most other heating systems so you don’t have to install a new pool heater of any sort. If your pool requires a powerful heater or you don’t get that much sunlight, you can easily extend the solar cell grid with additional solar panels to increase the amount of energy you harvest. The basic set up costs around $370 at Real Good Solar.
EcoloBlue Makes Water Out of Air
May 2, 2009 by anthony · Leave a Comment
It sounds like something out of a science fiction show: a machine that makes water out of thin air. But it’s not science fiction any longer.
The EcoloBlue Atmospheric Water Generator actually creates water out of air! The EcoloBlue has a number of celebrity backers, too, and it has been used in place of plastic water bottles at events such as the Green Inaugural Ball and at the Global Green Pre-Oscar Party.
The EcoloBlue system draws water molecules out of the air and can create up to seven gallons (28 liters) of drinkable water a day. That’s just the home/office model’s production amount—larger EcoloBlue systems are available. The system uses a stainless steel tank for storage, a filtration system that removes any impurities from the water, and other biodegradable plastics. The filtration system is rated higher than many other purified water systems on the market.
It is important to note, however, that EcoloBlue isn’t going to work the same in all locations. It truly needs about 50 percent humidity to work really well. This means that drier areas aren’t going to get as much water from an EcoloBlue, and the system won’t work as well during the winter, either. However, as long as there’s at least 30 percent humidity, the system will create water. If you’re in an area where the humidity becomes nonexistent at points, you can still connect your EcoloBlue system to your faucet and use it as a water filter.
Interested in installing an EcoloBlue in your home? Well, they’re not cheap. The base model is $1,350, although that isn’t more than some of the larger office water coolers. Of course, if you purchase a lot of bottled water, you’ll make up the cost in no time.
