Solar Chime

Wind chimes are often used to create a pleasant sound for your deck or your balcony.  solar-chimeA few of these dangling decorations can really create a nice background sound for any outdoor picnic or lazy evening spent outdoors.  But typically wind chimes only work their magic on a windy day.  If there’s not a hint of a breeze, there’s no nice sound for you to list to.  However, the Solar Chime guarantees that you get some unique satisfaction from your wind chime no matter what.

This interesting wind chime features a small solar power collector that charges up when it’s in direct sunlight.  The sun’s rays are they spread through the prism, sending beams of color all around.  Then, every 30 seconds or so, the built up energy rotates the crystal, making the three chimes move.  You don’t need any wind, then, to enjoy this great sound.  Of course, you do need sunlight, but it doesn’t take much at all to make the Solar Chime work.

The Solar Chime comes with a hook so you can hang it outdoors in the place of your choice, but it also features a suction cup hanger so you can hang it inside as well.  This way, you can enjoy the colors and the sound of your wind chime even during the cold months when you don’t spend that much time outdoors.

Anyone who loves wind chimes and the pleasant sounds they make is sure to enjoy this unique type of chime.  It’s also great for anyone who spends a lot of time out on their patio or simply likes gifts that are a bit out of the ordinary.

Perpetual Movement Globe

Are you looking for a really interesting gift for the person who seems to have everything?  Finding that perfect little gift can be difficult, especially if the person is hard to buy for.  perpetual-movement-globeOne really cool item that’s also completely green that many people don’t have is the Perpetual Movement Globe.  One of these neat little devices is sure to draw attention to itself no matter where you place it—on your bookshelf, on your desk at work, or on your coffee table at home.

The Perpetual Movement Globe is always spinning on its crystal base.  How?  It uses sunlight or light from the room’s bulbs to power its magnetic field.  These magnets in turn rotate the detailed little globe (it’s four and a half inches in diameter).  The earth itself is actually inside a clear bubble, and it’s the earth that moves.  Safe, clear liquid suspended between the bubble and the globe magnifies the globe, making it look like it’s on the surface.  It really looks like the globe is simply sitting on this crystal display and rotating magically!  You can even set the globe on a different display if you like—it works exactly the same.  There are no batteries or power cords necessary.  Everything is powered by solar energy.

The Perpetual Movement Globe is sure to get comments from your friends and co-workers, and it’s a fun little toy that doesn’t use up any power.  Too often, these neat little gadgets eat up batteries, but this is one distracting desktop toy that’s completely ecological.  Next time you need a cool gift for that person who is hard to buy for, buy them the earth.

Shower Manager and Timer

October 28, 2009 by anthony · Leave a Comment

Does your family fight over the shower?  Are you always waiting while someone takes way too much time washing their hair?  Showers are one of the ways in which people waste a lot of water.  It isn’t always intentional, either.  Sometimes, we lose track of time while standing underneath that relaxing spray of warm water.  shower-manager-and-timerSure, we can try to time our showers, but it can be difficult to tell how much time has elapsed when you’re rinsing and repeating.  However, now there is an easy solution to keeping an eye on your shower time and making certain you don’t waste water.

The Shower Manager & Timer is a cool showerhead that helps you save on energy and water, plus it will make certain no one is standing outside the bathroom waiting to shower for half an hour or more.  All you do is replace your current showerhead with the Shower Manager & Timer.  Then you set the timer for either five, eight, or eleven minutes of full-on water power.  Once this time is up, the water pressure cuts down to two thirds of maximum.  This gives you enough water to rinse off but doesn’t give you enough to linger in the warmth.  A warning beep also tells you that your shower time is almost up.  To reset the timer, just shut off the water for five minutes.  The device does need a nine volt battery to operate.

If you have family members who tend to take long showers, this will cure them of that habit.  It’s also a great way of making sure you aren’t late for work because you spent too much time in the shower, and it saves a great deal of water.  It’s a winner all the way around—unless you like long showers!

UrbanMover Electric Scooter

Lately, electric scooters have become very popular.  You may have seen people zipping up and down the streets on these cool little devices.  Most of them are completely street legal in much of the world, and they can get you wherever you want to go. urbanmover-electric-scooter Of course, they can’t carry much in the way of cargo, and you might get wet if it rains, but you never have to stop at the gas pump and fill up one of these scooters.  They’re great for cities that seem to be lacking in public transportation or for those who simply want the freedom to go where they want while using a green method of transportation.

The UrbanMover Electric Scooter is just one in a large range of different emission-free scooters that many use to get around in large cities.  It features a 48v rechargeable battery that provides more than enough power to get you up and down any hills you might come across while still getting you across town to the gym or that important meeting.  It fully charges within five to eight hours, and it’s compliant with DOT and EU.  This means the UrbanMover is completely green, giving you the satisfaction of going gas-free and keeping the environment clean.

You may be shocked at the price of these electric scooters at first.  Yes, they are expensive.  However, if you sit down and do the math on how much gas you’ll save or figure out how much bus fare you won’t be paying, you’ll see that they actually pay for themselves rather quickly.  You won’t see a huge increase in your electricity bill—it certainly won’t equal the amount of money you’d spend in gas to power a car.

Osprey Recycled Courier Bag

Plastic bottles fill up more landfill space than any other product we currently use today.  So many people simply don’t think to recycle them or find it too inconvenient to.  While recycling is on the rise, it will be difficult to clear out all of those plastic bottles.  osprey-recycled-courier-bagLandfills will be full of them for decades.  However, there are a number of different ways that plastic bottles are being recycled and reused today.

One interesting product that is made from recycled water and soda bottles is the Osprey Recycled Courier Bag.  This bag’s tape, webbing, and mesh are all constructed from recycled plastic bottles.  The buckles are also crated from reground and recycled buckle straps.  This incredible bag has plenty of different little pockets to stash things in, and it’s even got a padded sleeve for your laptop.  The different divisions make it easy to keep it all organized, and the two different carrying straps (one handle, one over the shoulder strap) make for easy carrying.  It even has a mesh pocket for a water bottle which, of course, you’ll recycle after you’re done with it. It’s just as durable as any bag, naturally, so you don’t have to worry about it falling apart.

While it may not empty out those landfills any time soon, the Osprey Recycled Courier Bag will help deal with some of them.  If you’re looking for a great green gift for yourself or one of your friends, this cool bag is perfect.

Topsy Turvy Planter

Many people would like to grow their own garden, but it can be such a chore.  First of all, you’ve got to have space for it, and many people simply don’t have a large enough yard for it.  If you live in a flat, a garden may be all but impossible, especially if you don’t have a large balcony or patio.  topsy-turvy-planterThen there’s the fact that you have to prepare the soil, plant the seeds or plants, weed the garden, water it, keep an eye out for pests and parasites…the list goes on and on.  But what if there were an easier way?

Well, there is.  The Topsy Turvy Planter allows you to easily grow different vegetables and even some flowers without ever getting your hands dirty.  All you have to do is hang it in an area with good sunlight, make sure to keep it filled up with water, and you’ve got a hanging garden anywhere!  It works on patios, balconies, and even indoors.  The plants actually grow straight down, which gives it a very interesting and almost bizarre look.  However, there’s absolutely nothing different between these upside down plants and those you’d grow in a standard garden.

The Topsy Turvy Planter is almost always shown with tomatoes growing in it, and while that’s certainly an option, there are other things you can grow in this interesting little device.  You can grow peppers, cucumbers, and even some types of flowers in it.  If you’ve got the space, you truly can grow a huge indoor garden using these planters.  The only thing you’re limited by is the amount of direct sunlight.  You don’t have to worry about weeding, training plants around cages or stakes, or dealing with any pests at all.  Just remember to water it!

Energy Efficient DC Cooler

October 20, 2009 by anthony · Leave a Comment

If you go on many picnics or if you love taking road trips, you know that taking along a cooler full of food or drinks is a necessity.  This is especially true if you don’t want to make many stops along the way or don’t want to pay the high prices you often find at gas stations.  energy-efficient-dc-coolerIt’s much cheaper to buy drinks at the grocery store in six or twelve packs, for example, than it is to purchase a single drink at a gas station.  However, this means you have to deal with ice, and then you have to deal with all of that water in your cooler when the ice melts.  However, if you want to keep your drinks cool for hours without dealing with this watery mess, all you need is the energy efficient DC cooler.

The energy efficient DC cooler gives you two different options.  If you set it to cold, it will chill your food and drinks to around 40 to 45 degrees below room temperature.  On the other hand, you can set it to hot and it will keep your food nice and warm until you’re ready to eat.  This gives you many new picnic options.  No longer will you have to rely on cold sandwiches or other types of cold food.  Now you can take a nice, hot meal with you wherever you go.  The cold setting makes it great for keeping those drinks nice and chilly, as well, and it can hold up to twelve standard sized soda cans.

Want more?  The energy efficient DC cooler also features an AM/FM radio to keep you entertained during your picnic!  You can listen to your favorite music while eating a great meal or enjoying a cold drink, making this one of the best coolers around.

Do you love cooking outdoors?  What about sitting outside near a warm firepit enjoying the fresh air?  If so, you may want to check out the recycled copper chiminea/firepit/grill.  This three in one product not only gives you the option of cooking out and enjoying a chilly evening without being cold but it also looks neat and is a great decorative piece for your patio.

recycled-copper-chimineaThe grill and firepit portion of the product are designed to be easy to clean, which is great for those who do not like scooping out used charcoal, ash, and other waste.  You have enough room on the grill to make food for several people at once, so while it’s not the grill to use when you have large parties, it’s perfect for intimate dinners with just a few friends.  If you’d rather cook indoors, you can always heat up the firepit for later use.  It puts out enough heat to keep everyone cozy on cool nights, allowing you to look up at the stars or just enjoy the evening.

While many chimineas are made from copper, this one is unique in that it’s created from 100% recycled copper.  This means the product will not only easily survive most weather but that it is also ecologically friendly.  You’re not creating any new waste when you purchase one of these recycled products.

Bee Condo

October 13, 2009 by anthony · Leave a Comment

Do you love having a great garden or flowerbed in your backyard?  Some people have massive, beautiful gardens that include brightly colored flowers and gorgeous plants.  However, to really get the most out of your flowerbed, you need your flowers to get pollinated.  Bees are a great method for this, but how can you attract bees to your backyard?  Easy—set up a bee condo.

bee-condoThe bee condo is a very inviting place to the orchard mason bees.  These bees can be found just about anywhere in the United States, and they will help pollinate just about all types of flowers and other plants.  Now, if you’re scared of being stung by bees, you may be thinking that a bee condo is the last thing you want around your home.  However, the good news is that the orchard mason bees are non-stinging.  In fact, they are very gentle insects and won’t cause you any harm at all.

The bee condo is made from recycled wood, specifically reclaimed fir, so it’s very ecologically friendly.  On the off chance you don’t have any orchard mason bees in your area, the bee condo also comes with information on ordering bees (yes, you can actually order them).  It also tells you how to attract bees to the condo and gives you information about various companies that can help you order your bees.

Having a great garden is possible without bees, of course, but having a number of orchard mason bees in your garden to help pollinate flowers is an easy way of boosting your garden’s appearance.  It makes it easier for your flowers to grow and reproduce, and that means less work for you as a gardener.
