Vancouver is made up of a number of distinct cities and districts. Each of these areas has a unique set of characteristics. When amalgamated together into the "Lower Mainland" or "Metro Vancouver" the distinctiveness is blurred. So lets unpack this city and take a look at what makes up our metropolis.

Yaletown: Yaletown begins near Vancouver's football stadium, BC Place, and hockey rink, GM Place, and runs along the south east edge of the downtown core. Yaletown is home to high rise condominiums, and trendy restaurants. Because it is the product of the late 90s, early 2000s property boom everything in this neighborhood has a distinct new feel to it.

Gastown: Gastown is located directly across from Yaletown, on the north east corner of the downtown peninsula. It is the original downtown core of Vancouver, and was labeled a national historic site of Canada in 2009. Tourists generally flock to the steam clock, one of the oldest landmarks in the city, located on the corner of Cambie and Water street. Gastown is home to many gastro-pubs and trendy nightclubs making it the place to be at all hours of the day.

Coal Harbour: The neighborhood of Coal Harbour really epitomizes modern day Vancouver. It overlooks marinas and rowing clubs to the west, the lush greenery of Stanley Park to the north, and the Burrard and Howe street financial district to the south. Coal Harbour is the awe inspiring intersection of city, park, and ocean. A trip to Vancouver isn't complete without a visit to this magnificent area.

North Vancouver: North Vancouver is an urban enclave set across from the rugged North Shore mountains. North Vancouver, or North Van, as the locals call it is a true west coast city. Its well known as an urban escape as it has a strong reputation for excellent hiking and mountain biking trails. If you happen to be in this area, make sure you check out the hiking trails through Lynn Canyon park, and if you are not afraid of heights the Lynn Canyon Suspension bridge.

Kitsilano: Kitsilano is a young up and coming neighborhood on the west side of Vancouver. Demographically, the area is comprised of students and those under 40. It is home to many yoga studios, organic markets, and cafes. LuLu Lemon Athletica calls this area home; the flagship store of the company is planted on Broadway street in this neighborhood.

Burnaby: Burnaby is a suburb located to the east of Vancouver. The telecommunications giant Telus is headquartered here, and many high tech firms such as Electronic Arts, Ballard Power Systems, Rogers, and Eastman Kodak have significant operations here. Vancouver Film Studios and The Bridge studios also call this area home. Simon Fraser University's main campus lies atop of Burnaby Mountain in the northwest corner of the city.

hollister/abercrombie trends help plz?

okay so may favorite clothes are from hollister, abercrombie, american eagle, tna, lululemon and some skater breands like hurley or element. i know for the skate and yoga brandds this will be hard to answer but, i want to shop there but also be unique. i know thats difficult but could anyone give me some hints on how to mix n' match their outfits to be unique but fashionable at the same time?

Why not take some of hollister or abercrombie's cute frayed short shorts and mix that with a trendy kind of tomboy-ish shirt from a skate brand. Could be either mens or womens but the shorts should tie it back in.

Agoo Apparel Uses The World's Weirdest, Greenest Models

Agoo Activewear was looking to find the ultimate kids to promote its ultimate line of kid's clothes and the answer came from the most unlikely of places – through the fans of the Vancouver Canucks. An unusual partnership was forged, which quickly grew into a campaign wrapped head-to-toe in irony.

Vancouver is no stranger to off-beat, irreverent advertising. From upside-down clothing stores, to messages written in back-hair, to giant candies bouncing down the street - it is a city that keeps its thumb on the pulse of new fashion, and the unique ways that new-to-market underdogs get their message seen. It is also one of the most active cities in the world, with a temperate climate and fresh air, making it the perfect market for activewear. For Agoo, all the components were there. All that was missing was some local flavour for their local brand.

The Green Men, famous for jibing opponents at Vancouver Canucks games, quite literally dress head-to-toe in silly green outfits that keep their identities a secret. They are at most Canucks games, and they were there, at Robson Square, helping to cheer the Canadians Men's Hockey Team to Olympic gold.

Bob Sacallis, VP of Agoo Apparel knew he had found his match the first moment he caught sight of the Green Men phenomenon.

"I was cruising the net looking for sports scores and I found this Youtube video of these green guys waving their hands and I thought it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. I thought, these guys would be perfect for Agoo."

Agoo worked with these two unusual green fellows to promote its latest line of sportswear for kids. No, the clothes don't really fit these full-grown Green Men, but the intention is made up in the message – it's not so much what they're wearing, it's what they're doing - taking something established and twisting it in a fun and unusual way. With this in mind, Agoo and the Green Men quickly grew to be a part of an even bigger campaign.

In Vancouver, where subversion is king, a small clothing company can make just as many waves as its bigger, more established competitors with some friendly satire. Lululemon made a name for itself by parodying pretentious fashion ads, and more recently, by thumbing its nose at the much-guarded territory of Olympic sponsorship.

In a post-ironic twist, Agoo has decided to subvert the subverters. In Agoo's campaign, the Green Men strike faux-yoga poses and have the same "unofficial" sports gear draped around their necks. Making it a fun double-twist to their current campaign.

starting the gym, sports bras?

I have never been athletic and never owned a sports bra. I am planning on taking some classes, including Zumba classes, and I don't really know what to wear. I might sound silly but how do you dress for the gym? Like, chest-wise? Do you wear a sports-bra alone, or a regular bra, do you wear a sports bra with a tank top over top of it? I just don't know. I also don't know of any places to get some decent work-out clothes here in Canada besides lululemon. Any help would be appreciated, lol )

winners is a great place for fitness wear, and i recommend nike or addidas...best brands, last an incredible amount of time, in fact, not sure they ever wear out - its all I wear. You should wear a good fitting sports bra, I actually got mine at walmart but in the US - they are the Dan skin brand...you want good support...especially if you are on the bigger side.
